Surprise proposal at Lachine Canal in Montréal
A last minute inquiry.
It was 1 am on a beautiful Friday in October and while I couldn’t sleep scrolling endlessly on Instagram I received a message from Jason who was desperately looking for a photographer for his proposal for that same Friday evening. The photographer he had hired had given up on him at the last minute.
It’s very rare that I respond to late-night messages like this, but I knew how stressed and anxious Jason must have been with less than 24 hours to go before his big proposal. So I took the time to answer him and a few minutes later his proposal was booked. What a relief!
Their proposal location: The Lachine Canal at the Old Port of Montreal
Jason was traveling to Montreal from Vancouver, BC with his girlfriend Rae, and since it was his first time in Montreal he had no idea where to propose.
He told me that he wanted an intimate place without too many people around and with a beautiful view of the city of Montreal to propose to Rae.
After a few email exchanges, we decided to do it at the Old Port of Montreal near the Lachine Canal.
Surprise proposal at the Lachine Canal
On the day of the proposal, Jason took Rae for a walk along the waterfront at the Old Port to spend some time together drinking wine and watching the city lights of Montreal.
What Rae didn’t know was that Jason had taken her there to ask her to marry him. As expected I was already at the location before they arrived to take pictures of them on the sly and document their proposal.
Within minutes of arriving at the venue, Jason got down on one knee and in front of the beautiful lit-up city of Montreal, he asked Rae to marry him. Rae couldn’t believe it!
After saying ‘I do’ they opened a bottle of wine and celebrated their engagement while enjoying the sunset.
